The Village Court is located at the Village Hall, 631
Moriches
Road, St. James, NY 11780. The Village Court is part
of the Unified
Court System of New York State and has both criminal
and limited
civil adjudication powers for offenses committed
within the Village,
though this Court does not exercise the full extent of
its authority.
Village Justices are elected for four year
terms. The
Justice Court Clerk is responsible for the maintenance
of all Court
records. The Court is usually in session on the second
Wednesday
of every month beginning at 7 P.M., however summer
sessions can
vary due to scheduling. Court sessions are noted on
the Village
calendar. Fines for parking and many moving violations
can be paid
by mail, or by appointment in the Village Hall.
Contested violations
are only disposed of during Court sessions.
